Cairns (pronounced "Canes" in Australian, which itself is pronounced
"Strane") is the gateway to the tropics and the jumping off point
for exploring the Great Barrier Reef. This largest of Earth's living
creatures, is a 1200 mile long palette of greens and blues, dotted
with coral islands and fringed with white plumes of surf. This area
has more kinds of marine life than the entire Atlantic Ocean, in
fact is home to more species than any other place on Earth. It is
believed that marine life began here. Perhaps this is the Garden
of Eden.
